Do Chinese citizens need visa to enter Vietnam?

Chinese citizens wish to travel to Vietnam, they must have a visa. In addition to a valid visa, they also need a passport which is valid at least 6 months since their arrival date into Vietnam and make sure that there are at least 2 empty pages on their passport for an entry and exit stamp.

There are 3 legitimate methods which are available for Chinese passport holders when it comes to Vietnam visa application as mentioned clearly in the following sections.

How to get Vietnam visa for Chinese passport holders?

Vietnam e-visa (not applied for Chinese e-passport holders)

Chinese travelers with their passport number which does not begin with the prefix “e”, are planning to stay 30 days in Vietnam for their trip, they can apply for Vietnam e-visa. Here is the guidance on the documents required and the e-visa processing.

Documents required:

• A soft file of valid passport which is valid at least 6 months from the departure date to Vietnam

• A digital photo in JPEG, PNG format which is recently taken for the visa application. The photo should be in color and taken against the white background.

• Email address: this email is used to send a notice to applicant when the e-visa is successfully issued or denied

• Credit/debit card: it is used to make the payment for e-visa fee online

Processing steps:

• You complete the visa application form online and make the payment

• After 3-5 working days, you will go to check the email registered for e-visa application to receive and download your visa results

• You print out your visa and show it to the Vietnam Immigration Officer to enter Vietnam.

Visa on Arrival

To obtain a visa on arrival, Chinese passport holders have to apply for visa approval letter before traveling to Vietnam. Depending on the purpose of travel, the documents required to submit will be different. Here is the guidance on documentation for those who wish to apply for tourist and business visit

Vietnam tourist visa

• A valid passport copy which is valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of arrival in Vietnam

• Round trip ticket

• Hotel booking

• Tentative travel plan in Vietnam

Vietnam business visa

• A valid passport copy which is valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of arrival in Vietnam

• A business certificate of Vietnam based sponsor company

• Form NA2

• Form NA16

• Tentative business plan in Vietnam

Visa on arrival procedure for Chinese citizens at Vietnam Airport.

Once the visa approval letter is approved, Chinese travelers just need to fly to Vietnam, then go to the landing visa area to submit the documents as listed bellows:

• Valid passport (for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Vietnam)

• A copy of visa approval letter

• A completed Vietnamese visa application form

• 02 passport sized photos

• Stamping fee in cash

They need to wait for a while in an immigration queue to get a visa sticker on their passport.

Visa at the Embassy

Chinese citizens can get a visa at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in China or other countries where they are residing or traveling.

To get the visa in this way, Chinese passport holders need to submit:

• Original passport which is valid at least 6 months since the traveling date to Vietnam

• Completed Vietnam visa application form

• An invitation letter sponsored by a Vietnam based company for business purpose or by a Vietnam based travel agency for tourist visa

• And others as required by the embassy/consulate

Vietnam visa fee for Chinese passport holders

• Visa on arrival: The fee for Vietnam visa on arrival for Chinese passport holders includes the visa service fee to get visa approval letter and the stamping fee to have visa stamped at the Vietnam airport.

• E-visa: For the stamping fee, it costs 25usd for single entry and 50usd for multiple entry which is valid up 3 months. For Vietnam tourist or business visa approval letter: please contact us for details.

• Embassy visa: the application fee is normally not listed on the embassy’s website and its fee is varied from one embassy to another. Please visit an embassy or consulate where is the nearest to your place to ask for more details.
